Hartley 'Golden Cowrie 38ft'

Hartley 'Golden Cowrie 38ft'

I have a Hartley Golden Cowrie built in Indonesia 1978, by Hilar Perak Engineering, and am trying to ascertain the type of 'V' drive that has been used in this boat. Any input would be appreciated.

Hi Colin. Thank you very much again for replying to my request for info regarding Hilar Perak Engineering. I have airmailed them some pictures of the V-drive and am awaitng a reply. The drive unit upon further examination is not actually a vdrive as such, but a large industrial strength transfer case, with tail shafts from the engine and to the prop shaft. There is a caged roller bearing with some movement in it that bothers me. If not repaired soon could fail in some out of the way place. (as they do). The boat was built by Hilar Perak in 1978, and the first owners name I think was Ian Brett. It seems that he circumnavigated the world in her,and after a few more owners is being restored to her former glory by us. So far we have relaced the old timber mast with a new aluminium one and completely re-rigged her. Once a few other repairs are done and the "Vdrive" fixed we hope to spend the next season cruising the Queensland coast. Thanks
