Ferro Cement Hull Repair

Ferro Cement Hull Repair

I have a 47ft Monk with a Ferro-Cement hull that is now in drydock. There is a small area of approximately 6 inches width that has the first layer of wire mesh showing. This area is below the water line. The hull was poured professionally by Windboats of Norfolk, England using 8 layers of wire mesh. What would be the best method of making this type of repair? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.,Tom

Hi Tom, How is it that you have this small area showing ? 1/Has the plaster covering been chipped off . 2/ has the hull been sand or some other form of blasting or abrasion. 3/ or is it an area which wasn't covered properly in the first place ? If it is 3/ then the hull was probably skimmed with a filler sealer which has come off. If you can answer it will help asess the situation so I can give you an appropriate answer. Regards

It looks like the first coating was just chipped off somehow. It could've been bumped some how. I just had it placed in drydock 1 week ago and it was noticed. When she was pulled out of the water it looked like it hadn't been painted in years. There are a number of rough areas, small chips etc. but nothing down to the first layer of chicken wire except that one area. I will probably want to somehow refinish the complete hull(primer, paint etc). Any suggestions would be most helpful.....Tom,
